Staff Meetings
All are welcome to join our staff for meetings which are held every Wednesday at 9:30PM in Waring (West Halls) Commons. The room may change from week to week, but we try to reserve the Study Lounge (the big room with the cushy furniture) as often as possible. If it’s unavailable, we will be in the Cultural Lounge. Look for our sign on the door.
The day before a meeting, the entire staff receives the weekly submission packet through email. This gives the staff a chance to read the submissions before coming to the meeting, so by the time the submissions are read aloud, the staff is already familiar with each piece.
After each submission is read at the meetings, the staff then discusses it. Pieces are then given a score on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the worst thing you have ever laid eyes on in your life and 10 being so orgasmically awesome that you want to tattoo it on your forehead backwards so you can read it when you look in the mirror every morning. At the end of the meeting, voting slips are given to the editors who later average all the scores.
Layout:
Problem Child holds a second weekly meeting dedicated solely to the layout of the upcoming issue. Throughout the semester, the layout team collects quotes from printers, discusses ideas for a theme and cover, and creates a digital version of the issue that will go to print at the end of the semester.
Anyone on the Problem Child staff is welcome to join the layout team. Layout meetings are in the Atherton computer lab. After the submission deadline, additional meetings will be held whenever the team can agree to get together, including the Thursday following the assembly of the dummy copy.
